How to Tell if You Need Grout Replacement for Your Tile

One thing that our team can help you with is grout replacement. While grout is designed to last for a long time, it does not last forever, and it will someday need to be replaced. In this article, we will go over a few ways to tell if your grout has reached that point yet or if it can stay for another year or two.

  • Visible Cracks- One clear indicator that it’s time for grout replacement is the presence of visible cracks in the grout. If your grout is noticeably cracked and starting to come out from in between your tiles, you should definitely have it replaced as soon as possible.
  • Holes- Another sign that you need grout replacement is small holes appearing in between your tiles. Even if the holes are small, they are still a cause for serious concern, as even the tiniest holes can allow water to penetrate into your subfloor and cause major damage.
  • Mold & Mildew- A third sign that you most likely need grout replacement is the presence of mold or mildew. This problem is most common in shower stalls or on other areas of bathroom tile, as the shower generates a great deal of moisture that creates an ideal environment for these organisms. If you catch the problem early, you may be able to remove the mold or mildew with an ordinary grout cleaner, but if the problem has made its way deep into the grout, it’s best to just replace it altogether.
